As organisations change ever more quickly, to meet the demands of modern business, it is vital that the change is fully embedded. Organisational culture has some of the attributes of a rubber band and if stretched (rather than truly changed) in any way, will snap back when an organisation is under stress. Cultural norms are buried deep in the psyche of an organisation but will quickly come to the surface if threatened with change. Witness the way that national cultures in Eastern Europe, suppressed by years of communism, re-emerged in the space of a few months. This was a potent demonstration of what happens when you only change peoples’ behaviour and not their underlying beliefs.

 

TSO Communication will work alongside your management team to effect true culture change through your whole organisation. We will help you be clear about precisely what you wish to change and how you will know when you have achieved your desired outcome. We will devise a programme that will enthuse and motivate your workforce as they come to understand the imperatives of change, and the risks of standing still. We will explore the new behaviours that will be required and ensure that each individual understands the effects on him or her personally.

 

Critically, we will work with both management and workforce to understand the positive by-products of the present ways of working and seek new ways to achieve these. Too often the baby is unnecessarily and thoughtlessly thrown out with the bathwater. Honouring the past in this way can be a significant factor in gaining buy-in from people who might otherwise act as blockers of change.

Cultural Audit

 

We have a number of different tools available to us that allow us to identify how your culture can be characterised today and how people would like it to be. We can then compare this with how you and your management team would like it to be.  Each of the tools can be customised and if required we can design new tools to meet your particular needs.

 

Organisational Readiness

 

Change is invariably a painful process; anything that can smooth the process is a benefit. Experience tells us that in practice there is quite a lot that can be done to make change easier. Some of this is straight forward housekeeping, such as ensuring that there is a proper case for the change and that the management team are quite clear about its purpose and the desired benefits. We can also involve the whole organisation in mapping out the new styles of working that will better support the desired cultural and behavioural patterns.

 

Planning and Change Programme Management

 

Cultural change programmes can be major undertakings - if the shift is a big one it can take up to two or three years to become fully embedded. To allow you to focus your resources on building your business, we can undertake not only the planning for the change programme but also its management throughout the implementation phase.
